Scientists of Kenya Association (SCOKA) is a dynamic non-profit organization foundedonApril 24th, 2022, by its visionary leader, Everlyn Kimanthi. The inception of SCOKA was drivenbyacompelling need—a need born out of Everlyn's personal journey in search of internshipandemployment opportunities. Her relentless efforts, encompassing over 700 applicationrequestsand outreach to numerous individuals, yielded no results. The challenges she facedmirroredthestruggles of many science graduates and professionals in Kenya.
With each passing day, the SCOKA team expanded, recognizing its potential to bemorethanjusta WhatsApp group. Consequently, the journey began to formalize and register SCOKAasafull-fledged association. Today, we are a burgeoning association, with science graduates enteringthejob market annually. However, the harsh reality persists—many sciences graduates faceuncertainty, unemployment, and the subsequent emotional toll, including depression, earlymarriages, and substance abuse.
SCOKA was born with a mission—to empower and support scientists in navigatingthechallenging job market and advancing their careers. Our commitment extends to fosteringconnections among professionals, bridging the gap between emerging scientists andseasonedexperts who can offer invaluable mentorship. Through networking, we aimto createaplatformforthe exchange of ideas, mentorship, and opportunities, positioning our members for success. SCOKA is more than an association; it is a community of like-minded individuals unitedbyapassion for science, a dedication to progress, and a commitment to each other's growth. Together,we explore new frontiers and build Kenya's scientific legacy, one step at a time.
